On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by WGRZ-TV news reporter and anchor Kelly Dudzik to discuss several topics covering her life and Emmy-winning career in the business.
Kelly talks about growing up in Connecticut and knowing by the time she got in high school that TV news journalism was something she wanted to do with her life. She immediately began working hard to achieve her goal, accomplishing more in high school than many aspiring journalists do in college. Speaking of college, Kelly elaborates on why she decided to attend Syracuse and if there were other schools she considered.
Following Syracuse, Kelly set out in the work field, landing her first job in Wilkes-Barre, PA just two weeks after graduating. That was the start of a well-traveled work journey that eventually took her to stops in Ohio, Montana and Arkansas before ultimately landing with WGRZ-TV Buffalo in 2013. Kelly tells stories of each her stops.
They spend time talking about the pros and cons of the job, the difficulties surrounding working TV news in a Covid environment, chemistry with colleagues and some pro tips for aspiring journalists out there.
They also talk about what most attracts Kelly to Buffalo, hobbies away from work and her favorite wing spot in town before finishing with the Fun Fact Finale, where we learn a ton of fun little nuggets about Kelly’s personal life.
