On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for the sixth and final Buffalo Bills mock published every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29.
Before embarking on the final mock of the series, the guys spend some time trying to come to conclusions and patterns they’ve longed about the previous five editions. Patrick realizes that to get a guy he really wants the Bills can’t hope it falls in their laps at 30, while Aaron spends considerable time talking about defensive edge and cornerback.
The mock begins and they examine trading up seven or eight spots into the early 20’s but roll the dice and decide not to. The gamble, at least for their wants pays off as the Bills are left with an unexpected choice of two running backs they really like. Ultimately they land on Travis Etienne in large part because he’s the bigger home run threat and love what Brian Dabol can potentially do with him.
The Bills stand pat in the second and third rounds as well, left with a decision between two corners they really like Elijah Molden and Ifeatu Melifonwu in the second before taking the same third round safety as they did last week.
The lone Bills trade of the draft happens soon after, when Aaron trades both Bills picks in the 5th round as well as a late 2022 pick to move into Las Vegas’ spot in round four (122 overall) to select a developmental defensive tackle to potentially take over for Star Lotulelei in due time.
They finish off the draft with a cornerback/special teams star in the sixth and a familiar wide receiver in the seventh before going over the Bills current roster draft winners and losers and a few bold predictions for this week’s NFL draft around the league.
