On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss among other topics what, if anything should matter about evaluating a Buffalo Bills preseason game.
The Bills were manhandled in every phase of their game during their preseason opening 33-6 loss at home to Chicago. That said, there’s several factors that contributed to that, ranging from key starters on the defense not playing at all, to several players admitting they didn’t game plan for Chicago, not to mention the Bears already playing their second preseason game. Still, for the most part the Bills stunk and it wasn’t fun to watch at all. The question is, does it matter? The guys discuss that.
Included in that conversation is Patrick feeling like nothing that he saw from the game did a single thing to alleviate any concerns he had about some positions and players going in—including the safety position, offensive line depth and the backup(s) to Josh Allen should the franchise quarterback be forced to miss a little time.
They also ponder the question that if the preseason is so meaningless and it’s not worth game planning for your opponent at all, why even bother playing Allen or any established starter for that matter? That plus a few bright spots if you’re going to bother evaluating the game, what they want to see going forward and much more.
