Just when we thought the bottoming out of the Buffalo Sabres was continuing, the guys finally put their foot down and gave fans who haven’t already deserted them one of the more thrilling comeback victories seen in years.  Trailing 3-0  and 4-1 late in the second period, Buffalo stormed back with three straight goals to tie the game, including the tying goal by Evander Kane with 2:08  remaining before ultimately beating the Boston Bruins, 5-4 on Ryan O’Reilly’s tally.

Jason Pominville continued his remarkable start to the season with his fifth goal of the season.  Jack Eichel and Benoit Pouliot also scored for Buffalo.

The Sabres dominated and outshot Boston in overtime, 6-0 including the game-winner where O’Reilly took the puck away from Zdeno Chara and beat Anton Khudobin  with a backhand that stood up upon review.

The win improved Buffalo to 2-5-2 on the season and helped take the sting away from a deplorable effort in a home ice effort to Vancouver the night before.

MVP: He only notched an assist in the scoresheet but Marco Scandella far and away had his best game in a Sabres uniform. He logged 27:23 in ice time and was a positive presence on both sides of the rink.  This is the Scandella the organization envisioned and desperately needed when they acquired him from Minnesota over the summer.

LVP: You have to wonder how long Matt Moulson remains on the roster before he’s exposed to waivers and ultimately sent away to Rochester.  Maybe he can help with the maturity and development of the youngsters down there because he’s not doing anything in Buffalo. He had one shot on net and zero hits in 12:09 of ice time. At this point he’s taking away opportunities for others.

UP NEXT: Sabres are back home to host Detroit on Tuesday.  Let’s see if they can get a winning streak going.
